Hammerfall has a high reputation in maintain their music quality. Today, after 10 years, they can still deliver outstanding music. Their new album "Threshold" will satisfy their fan with solid epic 11 pure heavy metal songs.
On the bright side, this album has a better production than the last time. The mix is truly good one especially on the vocal which makes Joachim's voice more decent and stronger than last work. All songs have many good riffs and have great melodies sound, I would say nearly perfect. Music is very solid and well composed. My favorite songs are "Rebel Inside", "Dark Wings, Dark Words" (slower song, good melody, and great solo), "Reign Of The Hammer" (one of my best favorite, great melody, great riffs, chords, notes, and solos).
On the worst side, Hammerfall seems to stuck with their old materials. Music does not go beyond expectation much. In this album, they seem to lack of good memorable chorus like "Stone Cold" or "Stronger Than All". "Carved In Stone" has a too long soft intro (around 1:34) before starting burning something, if you cut that down to :34, this might be another great song. "Genocide" and "Titan" seems to lack momentum as closing songs of the album.
Overall, the album is very good with great sound and music. However, it seems to lack of memorable chorus which normally should be the money shot for the album. Lucky, Hammerfall is still able to deliver great pure metal music and that will not disappointed their fans.
