I: Between Two Worlds (Nov 03, 2006)

Emerging from the Immortal front man Abbath, "I" was formed and released their debut album called "Between Two Worlds". First question you might ask is whether this album an resembling Immortal euphony. After you listen to, you will realize that this album has absolutely nothing to do with Immortal. In this composition, Abbath pursues different music path with some death & roll riffs (something like extreme Motörhead) and few classic rock guitar solos. The result?, it is nearly perfect! It will blow you away. Abbath proves that he has talent to accomplish great music outside his torritory also.

The album starts with "The Storm I Ride", the introduction of what is the come. Abbath perfectly sets up the asmostphere of coldness and darkness for the rest of the album by using great guitar riff chords and very melodic hard guitar solo. Next "Warrior" is one of the highlights. The song will make you feel as a warrior fighting within a cold, frozen battlefield. The song "Between Two Worlds" is brilliantly mixed and composed. The whole arrangement is excellent and solid with great guitar chords and lyrics. You can call this as the epic of the album. The album picks up more speed with the next song "Battalion". The song has great guitar riffs and aggressive drum line which perfectly blend into each other very well. Another highlight of this album is "Mountains". In my opinion, it has the great memorable guitar riffs. Bass is very well stand out. Guitar solo is absolutely brilliant. The arrangement of this song is definitely excellent from the beginning to the end. The next song “Days of North Winds" is also great but rather a standard track comparing to the rest of the songs. Song “Far Beyond the Quiet” will hit you hard, being a tribute to Bathory's Quorthon. The music is well mixed and very complicated. With the great epic sound, the song makes you want to enter into the bloody battle zone. The album ends with the brutal sound and great speed of "Cursed We Are".

Overall, this is one of the greatest album Abbath has provided. The sound of the whole album will give you chill and bring you back to the great sound of the classic heavy metal. Abbath voice is never better throughout the album. There are many great brilliant guitar solos and riffs in this album with Motorhead and Bathory influences. You will enjoy it!.

PS. This opus in general concerns mostly the black metal fans, while I believe others will love it. As for the hard-core fans of any kind, they better look for something else.
