NINE INCH NAILS, SMASHING PUMPKINS CONFIRMED FOR U.K. READING, LEEDS FEST

BBC News reports that SMASHING PUMPKINS have been confirmed as one of the headliners of the U.K.'s Reading and Leeds festivals.

NINE INCH NAILS, RAZORLIGHT, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, ASH, THE VIEW and THE GOSSIP are among the other acts appearing at the twin events August 24-26.

SMASHING PUMPKINS and the CHILI PEPPERS are not due to appear at any other U.K. summer music festivals.

All tickets for last year's three-day event sold out, with an estimated 80,000 music fans at each site.

The headline acts at last year's event were PEARL JAM and MUSE, who went on to collect the Brit Award for best live act last month.

GLENN HUGHES "AMERICA IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT MARKET FOR ME"

Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, TRAPEZE) has issued the following update:

"I will be leaving for Rotterdam on Wednesday. I absolutely LOVE singing with a full orchestra, I get chills thinking about it. See you there on Friday evening.

"My show on Sunday evening in London will also be a special event for me. I have had a great start to the year, and this show comes at a wonderful time.

"The amazing reception we got in Russia and the Ukraine was a turning point in my career.

"It feels good headlining theaters again; I have missed the big stages. The passion and the soul will be carried onto the stage at Sheperd's Bush on Sunday night! I know there will be a lot of you there; it's gonna be funky!

"The L.A. and NYC shows are now on sale. America is such an important market for me. I will keep you updated when more shows are confirmed. Please be advised as to get your tickets soon..."

THE CULT's BILLY DUFFY ON THE BAND NEW ALBUM "IT STILL FEELS TRASHY AND SORT OF RAMSHACKLE"

THE CULT guitarist Billy Duffy recently spoke to ChartAttack.com about the group's upcoming album, their first since 2001's "Beyond Good and Evil".

"We've got some ideas down, circulating. Each album gets its own life and while it's early to really tell with this one because it's in the formative stages, it still feels trashy and sort of ramshackle, which I like. [Singer] Ian [Astbury] isn't singing with THE DOORS anymore and I think that's lifted his spirits for a CULT record, too."
