SLAYER DRUMMER, DAVE LOMBARDO GIVING EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

BW&BK recently conducted the interview with Dave Lombardo, Slayer's drummer. Few excerpts are as follow:

About his work in Slayer latest album:

BW&BK: Do think you pushed things to the next level of drumming with this record? Is there any way to push things further than what you've done?
Dave: "Slayer has a formula and you have to stay with that formula. I wouldn't be able to do some crazy funk beats on one of Slayer's songs. You have stay within that formula. With this record I didn't push things that far - it could have gone farther. There was a barrier there - if you venture out of it would not be Slayer."

BW&BK: Do feel aged? Arguably, Slayer dominated the scene in the '80s and now you seem to be dominating again with a massive new record and world tour.
Dave: "Once we get off stage I say to Jeff (Hanneman), 'we're some bad ass motherfuckers. We just pummel those kids musically.' We are very proud. I'm 41 and I feel great. When I was 20 my parents use to say 'what are you gonna do with your life? What are you going to be when you're 40. What are you going to do with your life?' But here I am still doing it. It's awesome, I'm really really proud of this. I don't think it's being cocky, but we are just really fucking good. When we go out and played there are no triggers, no fancy pedals. It's raw drums and raw guitar playing ... and Tom (Araya) screaming not growling. He's not sounding like the Cookie Monster, he's spitting out his own voice as is. I think there is a rawness to this band and it's very cool."

About his other new projects:

BW&BK: Aside from Slayer, what else is on your plate these days?
Dave: "I'm trying to do other things. I did a song for that movie, My Name Is Earl. I did a song with Earl called '99 Red Balloons' (originally by NENA) ... it was a punk version though. Really punk, it was good. I did few songs recent Tyler Bate's Dawn Of The Dead movie. That's it really, my time has been occupied with Slayer. I have other things coming up like this project with Vernon Reid (LIVING COLOUR guitarist). I'm not sure if it is going to happen due to my time, but I may do something with him. I don't know, we will see. I have been working on this record forever and I still don't have it out - it is my drum record. It has kind of taken a back seat. I have been very private about this drum record, just me in my room. I'm not sure when this will come out, maybe next year. Hopefully, we will see."
